Romans 1, Codex Sinaiticus, 4th century
God Chooses
There is a teaching that is found in the Scriptures that is rarely, if ever, emphasized in Christian orthodoxy. It is that the members of the church do not join but are chosen by God entirely in His grace apart from any human works. God places the members of the church into that body. God also chooses those among Israel that will accept Jesus as their past and coming Messiah. No one makes that choice. That is God’s prerogative.
God has a purpose for choosing as He does. Those that are chosen at this present time have no particular merit above those that are unchosen. Yet the chosen have a particular role to play in the future in accomplishing God’s ultimate goal. Because God is love, He has not forgotten the unchosen.
